If by "adopt it" you mean that homosexuality is genetically adopted from an ancestral gene then no it is not adopted. There is no scientific proof that shows people are genetically homosexual, or that it can be passed down from your father, mother grandmother etc. like a red hair or blue eyes. To say that it could be genetically implanted in you and you cannot help it would imply that there is such thing as a "homosexuality" gene which is ridiculous. I do not know whether it is upbringing or just a personal decision but I am sure you cannot be born gay.
That's a hard question to answer because of the controversy that it carries. I would say they adopt it, but then where would you adopt it from if you have been thinking about it since an early age? Usually, people have known their sexual orientation at childhood. In some cases, it might be adopted as a kid due to seeing it and thinking that it is right but most of the time, children growing up with gay parents aren't gay themselves. My opinion is that technically, you are born with it, because of my belief in destiny.
I would say that nobody can adopt it or be born with it. The reason being that when someone is attracted to another in a sexual way, he/she doesn't plan on being attracted to the other. In fact, that feeling of love just develops and sometimes even takes time realize. Because they don't know it themselves that they would be attracted to the person, they definitely don't adopt homosexuality. However, I know people who are homosexual and they tell me that they just fall for the personality. Hence, if the gender is the same sex as them, then they are homosexual. This means that they aren't born with it either because they truly like someone for who they are.
I think there is a possibility that humans might naturally be born homosexual, but it's hard to tell because it is such a well known and accepted matter today that it could be a mix of both since people are free to choose, identify and express themselves as homosexual. The reason I think it might be possible that some cases are the result of genetics is because of the fact that some people can tell that they are homosexual from an early childhood age and because in cases where it has been an extreme ban and looked at as a major sin and disgrace, there are still people who know that they are homosexual but have to keep it to themselves or else they would be tortured and most likely killed because of it. Chances are, a person who lives in such a society wouldn't have it occur to them that they are homosexual just out of the blue, therefore there is a high chance that homosexuality is something that people are born with.
I believe that people adopt it because if you look at it in a Islamic persepctive God did not create one to like the same gender. Thus, the reason for it being a sin.
I tend to disagree on that. If you look at it in an Islamic perspective, even if it is a sin for the same gender to be partners because God intended men and women to be partners and mate, God is the one who controls our destinies. This is why I think that people were technically born gay, because it was decided for them before they were born.
I agree with Shenese, why would God make it a sin to be gay if people are meant to be born gay? Personally I believe you adopt it because it doesn’t make sense for God to decide for them to be gay if it is a huge sin. Maybe God decided to test all homosexuals by giving them the option to choose whether they stay straight or become gay. Since life is a big test it would make sense that God is testing gay people as well. Also it wouldn’t be fair to those who are “born gay”, say they try to be religious knowing its forbidden to be homosexual in Islam, how can they beat there issue if God made their life that way?
And to Vrishti, there’s no way homosexuals are only attracted to personality because everyone’s personality is different, so why would they keep themselves to one gender? Most gay people dislike the opposite sex because they have no interest right? So if they were only attracted to the personality of the same gender then there not really gay because it’s only the personality. Not every guy has the same personality, nor do females. And if personality was the case, even more people would be gay then there are today.
Also if homosexuals are simply attracted to personality why do some men dress up like drag queens and act like females or why women change there genitals to be a guy?
I agree with Vrishti, you cannot adopt being gay nor can you be born with it. You cannot adopt homesexuality because it is not the norm if given the choice I highly doubt anyone would make the choise to be attracted to the same sex based on the controversy this issue raises. You cannot be born homosexual because when someone loves a person it is not because of their gender it is the person they are and the personality that they fall in love with. Whic makes it silly to say that there is a homosexual gene. There is only love and you will not always have control over you love and you will not always have a say in who your attracted to, you just are.
My personal opinion is that homosexuality is wrong, we are physical not proportional to meet the specific demands. However, these demands are met with a creative interlocking of the flesh. In other words, "something just doesn't fit right."
I don't condemn this condition, the same I wouldn't condemn autism or any mental disability. Relating homosexuality to a deficiency implies that it is not a choice, the same no one could choose to be retarded.
However, I believe homosexuality is both. It is definitely, on one hand, a choice because numerous people are curious and want to experiment, however, they have merely made homosexual choices and may not have the condition itself. This can lead to thinking psychologically you're gay. On the other hand, can those thousands of gay people claiming to be born that way really be deluded, therefore justifying their condition based on fear of acceptance? Certainly some, but all? I'm sure the psychological roots dig deeper than that. I believe homosexuality has evolved into our species. I don't know much about our sexual history, but assuming evolution is valid, homosexuality would have disintegrated a long time ago. If it's survival of the fittest, gay's would not exist. We need to reproduce to survive as a species, this is why I believe, whether it's evolution or creation, that being gay, is a condition, and not the way it was meant to be.
Honestly, in my opinion, people are not born gay. It's something they adopt. Period. God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. If being gay is okay, why can't they have sex normally? Why can't they reproduce?
It's cool to be flamboyant. I'll chalk that up to upbringing. But being full on gay is definitely a choice.
I agree with Marissa that people are not born gay and they don’t adopt it. I think that it may be in the back of your head that you are attracted to males or females. And once you have better understanding of the world around you is when you finally are able to determine that you like your own gender. To those people who say that homosexuality is wrong, I believe that they should not force their beliefs onto others especially if it does not affect them directly. If I like blue and you dislike blue then am I wrong for liking blue? So basically if someone is of a sexual orientation that you don’t agree with , why shouldn’t you not be friends with that person, if it doesn’t not affect you?
It' hard to say if people are born gay or not. It may be adopted somehow from different psychological events, or it may be somewhere hidden in your genes. However, I truly do not believe that sexual orientation is a choice. Everybody comes in different shapes and sizes. Many people also experiment with different sexes. Sometimes people who experiment find that they enjoy what they're doing, and some do not enjoy it. Today people are becoming more open to different sexual orientations, but many years ago people were not open minded at all and it was difficult for gay/bisexual people to be open about their orientation. If they could choose to be attracted to only the opposite sex, don't you think that they would?
Well study shows that human homosexuality is genetic, it is a gene that certain people are born with and can't get rid of. Thus, making it something you are born with and begging the question to whether or not certain people would shut it off if they had the chance.
There are many arguments that state that people are born homosexual, but there are two that really hit home for me personally. The first is the incredible amount of data that clearly suggests a correlation, if not causation that homosexuality is at least partially genetic in nature. One need not read any fancy research journals to find this information, wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biology_and_sexual_orientation) has the answers. The second is how frankly irrational it would be to decide that you are gay. There are so many cases that have already been pointed out in this thread, such as the persecution of the LGBT community and the struggle to fit into society.
After considering this evidence, I don't see how anyone could think that being gay is just a choice.
