The power of reality.

What if one day you woke up with the power to shape reality however you saw fit? What would you do first? Is it even morally right for somone to alter reality? Is this power too much for one person to wield or would it eventually corrupt?

  1. If I had the ability to shape reality I don’t think I would change a thing, considering that when I would change it other people would be affected by the out come. I think that it would be morally wrong to do so and very selfish as well , since you would really only be thinking about yourself and not others that would have to live in this reality that you would most want and that suits you. This power would be too much for one person and would eventually corrupt. Like in Inception when the people who were in this dream world thinking it was reality, would catch onto the changes happening and everything would go wrong. I think this would happen if one person had the power to change reality, people would catch on and become very upset and angry that reality was being tampered with.

  2. I would shape the **** out of reality. And I'd even go as far to say that anyone who says that they wouldn't change reality is lying to themselves.

Think about what we are considering here. The ability to completely change how the universe works. You are, essentially, a God. A selfish person might set themselves up as a god-king, and just mess around with the universe for fun. A moral person might create a utopia, ending war and suffering forever. But they will always act. The selfish person acts out of self-interest. The moral person acts to help those in need.

If someone didn't use their power to help people in need, they could be considered almost as evil as the one who just messed with reality for fun. If it is within your ability to end the suffering of billions of people, and you don't, how are you not committing a terrible atrocity?

  3. I think that the power of shaping the reality is a very powerful authority. It's moral rightness or wrongness fully depends on the authority.
The question of corruption or misusing this power depends on the person who one day wakes up to find this power. If the person who has the authority is evil, then it is possible that they would misuse it. For example: a terrorist would do all that could be done to harm their enemies and gain control.
However, if this power happens to fall in the hands of a person who is a true utilitarian, then the chances are that this person would think of the greater good. For example: he/she might want to put an end to wars.
We cannot forget the hedonist. If a hedonist was capable of handling the power then it the power would be used for the benefit of that individual. So the world will be lucky if the hedonist is against the evil.
Average human beings would think of their own benefits, which is why it is not right for a person to be using it. We all learn from our disappointments in life. If one had the power to alter reality, then the chances are that person wouldn't learn. Since learning is a natural part of human life, that person with the authority would never be able to lead through humanistic experience.

Finally, if I were to have this authority, I think I would want to alter this world by taking away cancer from this world. Perhaps, wars too. But under the temptations I think I would also occasionally use it for personal problems in life.

  4. In able to have the power to shape reality is morally unacceptable. As humans we shouldn't change what god has offer to us and nonetheless the people around us also. Changing reality is something that is risky and once reality has been changed you might have regrets. The life that one has is for them to explore what's out there in the world and to experience the natural wonders, instead of shaping the world into a different place. If most people in the world wanted to change their reality, eventually the world would be corrupted due to the fact that there's too many people wanting to have the perfect life, however there's nothing perfect in this world. If everything was perfect, then there wouldn't be any obstacles for people to face and that's not the point of understanding the meaning of life.

  5. I honestly have no idea what I would do. This reminds me of the right assignment. However that being said, I don't think this concept is morally right. Conner's right, you would essentially become a God, and this idea is dangerous. We are in no position to makes decisions like this, and alter reality as a whole. Humans are weak, this would only lead to corruption down the road

  6. It is definitely wrong to alter reality because the whole purpose of reality is it shapes itself. Although it is morally wrong, I’m sure I would alter a few things but not enough to become evil or make a fuss about. This power is way too much for one human being alone, especially since we’re not capable of withholding all that power. If we all had the ability to change our reality the entire world will corrupt because everyone will try to become the richest, or smartest, or king of the world. With everyone making the same changes, their life will eventually cause huge problems and maybe even war. Since many will change the same things about their lives, we all will start to soon live the same reality everyone else is living which won’t really make it our OWN reality. But in the end I have no idea what I would do with the power but what I do know is it will most certainly not be used for evil.

  7. The first thing i would do is to end the power, because even though one has the power and no matter how good of a person is in life and when in need one’s mind might start to wonder and look the other way. Many people with no money at first are very good but as the income increases they become different person so one might have the power to corrupt and be on top. This power should not even be allowed and if seen should be ended on the spot.

  10. Who are we to alter the world? We are merely humans? Have you ever heard of a perfect human? Everyone makes mistakes no matter who they are.. If we had this sort of power some might try to do good but in the end those who have too much power will become greedy, selfish and conceited.
Me, I wouldn't tempt myself with using that power, yes the world is corrupted and yes people are evil and a few changes wouldn't hurt anyone but I think everything happens for a reason, if you alter one thing you will feel the need to alter more and more until the world becomes your playground and ultimately, you will start controlling humans because if there is no one there to stop you then what's stopping you from playing the role of god?

  11. I think it is wrong that there are virtual realities that exist. The only reason why we're in this huge mess of chaos is because the human species is naturally evil. We brought this on our selves, without the consideration of others. Those born into the future are left with what ever we leave them with. Of course then it would make sense to look for a way out. Instead of trying to find ways to alter reality, or even trying to comprehend it, we should try to ALL fix the issues we have now, with the resources we have and build on those resources. It would then be so much easier to face our realities instead of looking for a way out
