Pretend...

Is pretending a trait of weakness? Or an advantage?

  2. To me the idea of pretending is absolute weakness. If an individual can only go through life pretending or feels the need to pretend to gain various things in life or within themselves, shows they are lacking a lot personally. And even through all their gains of pretending, probably will never truly be happy on some leve

  3. Good question.

I think it goes both ways actually. Considering certain people whom I once knew and the experiences I've encountered with them, pretending is definitely an advantage and usually means that the person is smarter than most people if they can pull it off since they are able to pretend without being suspicious or caught. It can work for a very long time in fooling others to get what you want, but in the end, the reality is that you are nothing but a fake. Also, all the pretending will eventually catch up to bite you in the butt.

On the other side, it is a trait of weakness because whether it works or not, if you have to rely on pretending all the time, and are unable to function in society normally without pretending then there is a weakness there.

Pretending is more of a weakness than an advantage.

  4. Pretending is definitely not an advantage. It means they are trying to escape real life. That to me is a weakness. Instead of pretending and attempting to get away from things you should face them head on. Pretending does not solve anything.

  5. But pretending could be an advantage in many ways for example, if you got into trouble with the law, and you pretend you didnt do it but you really did, wouldnt that work in your favor?

  6. I don't think that we can qualify anything so broad as "pretending" as a strength or a weakness. Are we talking about deluding one's self or others? Deluding yourself can rarely be considered an advantage, but in horrible situations, it could be a wonderful advantage. Imagine if you were being tortured, wouldn't you want to be able to block out reality. Similarly, the ability to deceive others carries many obvious advantages.

I believe that the ability to do something well can never be considered a weakness, as there is always a situation where that ability will come in useful, and no one is forcing you do it the rest of the time.

  7. I think pretending can be both an advantage and disadvantage. When someone pretends, (depending on the situation), they can block out some very important information. On the other hand when a person pretends, then they can also block out the unimportant things.
