What If...?

What if you could see the future?

If you had the ability to see the future, how would you use this power? Could this power be used for good or evil? If you didn't like how your future looked would you change it even if it affected the people around you?

  1. Time is a very risky thing to tamper with. You must keep in mind the butterfly effect. This means that the tiniest of changes can have a massive impact on the future. That being said I would love to see the future and plot out a course that looks right to me. But first i would spen many months in isolated contemplation just see all the diffrent ways the future can go. I would not want to selfishly make a choice to make my life better, that would start a chain reaction that leads to another world war. The potential for good and evil is in us all.

  2. I would love to see into the future, which would be pretty cool. But I do agree with Adrian that it would be selfish to change the outcome of the future to better my own. Even though if I was given the chance to see and change the future I wouldn’t because it wouldn’t be the right thing to do. It would cause problems for many others and in time it may also cause problems for myself because it is not the life that was meant for me.

  3. If I had the ability to see the future I would probably use it to see how general life is in contrast to the present. I probably wouldn't go looking for my future self because I wouldn't want that experience to possibly, negatively affect my life. I would probably help the future if something went wrong and I had to go back in time to "save" the future but I would do it with caution because like Zoro said the future is a risky thing to tamper with.

  4. If I had the ability to see the future, then it would pose the question to whether or not my life is predetermined, In my personal opinion, whether or not the ability to see the future to be put to use would depend on the person, if a person who had saw another person getting killed or perhaps his own family member being hurt or robbed, etc.. he might try and save them, but a person who is consumed by greed, lust, or/and hate might want to rob banks or kill someone who has hurt him or someone close to him. In addition, a person who has good intention might have a negative impact on the future, like that saying that goes, if you kill a butterfly in the past in can cause a chain reaction that effects the future or something close to that. In conclusion personally I wouldn't change a thing because everything happens for a reason.

  5. If I had the power to see the future, I would use it in my good will and try to not take advantage of it, and try to help out people that would be in trouble. I would say that this power could be good and evil because if I had this power I might change something that would happen to me if it was a negative issue. Of course everybody would want only good things that will happen in life, nonetheless there is nothing perfect in this world. If it was perfect, it probably wouldn't be reality. If I had to change the future because I didn't like it and it would affect other people, I wouldn't change the future because that means that I'm being selfish and I'm only thinking about the good outcome that would happen to myself. More over it wouldn't be fair to other people and it's morally wrong.

  6. I think that the ability to see the future would make life entirely pointless and boring. Life would almost have no value, because you would be able to see how things would turn out, you would be able to know many answers to things that people spend their lives studying and wondering about. There would be no point in wondering about things, because you could see the future and have answers to everything you've ever wondered.

  7. The ability to see the future would be both good and evil. To win the lottery and make as much money as i can would be evil but then to help out other who are in need will be good. If one didnt like how there future was turned out to be, they would change it even if it did affect the people around them. this is because us humans are selfish, you may say you wont but if the opportunity actually came, at your age you would jump on it in an instant. but then that leads to this question, if you seen the future, wont the future change because you have already seen it?

  8. If people where able to see the future that would simply mean that everyone would be able to determine there own faith in life. the reason why we all experience things is because we are challenging our mind, our body and our soul to prepare our self for what is yet to come. Being able to witness any excitement or failure that is yet to come for our future would make life predictable and boring, in my personal opinion. Know that there is something that exist beyond our imagination would seem almost worth not know. I would not want to use this power, just because I would not want to witness the life that I am striving for. If this was in fact true many people would use this power to do good things, where as bad people would have the intentions of doing bad. i

  9. To be honest, I most likely would alter my future so that I probably could get what I wanted. In a way, I would be doing it out of selfish greed, but only because I'm trying to get better outcomes not only for myself but for others. In a way I am kind of glad I don't know my future because if I did, life would not be worth living. If you know everything what is the point of living it out. You can compare our lives to a book. When your in the middle of reading a good book, and you find that idiot that ruins the ending before for you, you don't want to read the book anymore. The same is with our lives. The unknown pushes us to live our lives, some to the best of our abilities.

  10. If I had the ability to see the future, I would use it every second of day so that I could get the most out of it not just for myself, but for my family and friends as well. If two months ago I could have seen that my dad had a pretty bad climbing accident, I could have prevented it. I could stopped my friend from dropping and breaking his laptop. If used creatively, the ability to see the future lets you find the answer to any problem. You just have to look forward to time when someone figures it out in the future. Personally I don't understand why most people here are equating any kind of personal use with pure evil and selfishness. Should we never help ourselves in any way? Should we all live completely spartan lives and give away everything that we earn? Utilitarianism says that is it good to give the greatest pleasure the greatest number of people. Why is somebody else more entitled to winning the lottery than you? Why should you never receive any of the benefit the amazing power that you possess?
